The Entities are Haunting the Web

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Alas, today is the launch day for the Entities-R-Us website. My intentions have been fulfilled. I’m up and running on the exact day I specified over a month ago. That’s pretty good for a less-than chronic procrastinator…

And so, I salute my readers and readers to be with a glass of Santa Alicia Gran Reserva 2003 cabernet sauvignon (pronounce that like you see it, it’s far funnier), a snazzy little wine from Chile whose mountains feed the flavors of grapes quite wonderfully. Ahhhhh. I highly recommend Chilean wines. Good choice in most cases, never hit a dud.

I invite you to explore Entities-R-Us. It’s a strip borne from another that I did called In Spirit. In the near future, I plan to run In Spirit as a graphic novel of sorts. You’ll discover more of that later… and more of my other artistic ventures. The beauty of the web is that I have the opportunity to dredge out all the great ideas publishers were afraid of and test the waters for the audiences I know are there. There are definitely a lot more sick people than just me out there.

Entities was spawned from a haunting in the afore-mentioned comic strip. When you have a ghost, someone has to hunt it. Arno and Merv fell out of that. Erna was already a key member and Vlad was an afterthought and a good one at that.

I often like to write from the ghost’s perspective. “Who the hell is this in MY house!” I’ve had many paranormal experiences over the years. The first one was one of the more memorable. It was definitely a case of a guy who had no idea he was dead… and “who the HELL is this woman in MY ROOM!” One of these days I’ll recount that excitement.

It did spark my spiritual journey. I finally figured out there was more than just the physical. It has subsequently led to this cartoon. I hope to make you laugh and inspire some thought in the process.

I just want to say - enjoy! And, EAT COOKIES! (It doesn’t get much better than that.)

Thanks for watchin’!

Day two in the life…

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Nice to see this thing is still up and running. While I wouldn’t call myself a technophobe… I’m certainly quite techno-resistant. It took me a while to give up vinyl records. I’m still on CDs. I don’t own an IPod. Blackberries are something I make jam with (Yes, I’ve been known to make jam). I was the last person on Earth to give up my “analog” camera for digital. Glad I did - makes ghost hunting easier. Besides my old Nikon was a beast slamming off my gut on hikes.

So, this web thing had my pot in a stir, more like a maelstrom. I’m one of those sorts who had to know exactly how the clutch mechanism worked before I could drive standard. No one can tell me how the web works logistically… I’m never lost in the woods, but I was well in the weeds on the web. Four sleepless nights and nearly alienating my web host, Entities was up an running.

It’s a relief. I know I have to master this eventually - I never, ever, ever give up - so one of these days I’ll be a pro after leaving a mile’s worth of carnage in my wake.

Alas, publication has gone beyond the carburetor (something I could actually adjust myself) to fuel injection (something I WISELY leave to my mechanic).  Comics have come a long way since I used to draw them on my mother’s counter in the kitchen, snickerin’ my butt off.

Time to settle in… Until next post.

A morning of inking ‘toons and an evening of fine wine

Friday, September 19th, 2008

In spite of full ink pens and frequent phone calls that I threatened not to answer, I diligently applied ink to the drawings of the first case study for Arno, Merv and the Entities crew. One of the fun things about this strip is that I can actually do a small story around an investigation.

As I continue my new ventures in the ghost hunting field, I’ll likely have some good fodder for the humor mill. Can’t wait to torture ya…

Tonight finds me “herding cats” - that’s the wine pick of the week. It’s much better than the last one I mentioned. Yes, it is a screw-top which grates on my principles, however once you tried this one, you’ll forgive and forget. “herding cats” hails from South Africa pressed from a fine selection of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz grapes. I sip this lovely glass while scanning the grass for those eyes I saw… eyes stalking me. Eyes that know that I will come into the proper vintage once I finish my glass of “herding cats”. Alas, I become a snack in the wilds of Africa over the pleasure of a really cool wine.

Thus, I am the victim of my own imagination. Nice to survive it and live to cartoon another day.

Enjoy!

Working Saturdays…

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

When you’re a workaholic, everyday’s a work day… So, Saturday seems to slot right into that line of thinking. It’s always nice to finish some cartoon inking on top of that. Even a trip up North in the car finds me with my feet on the dashboard and a pad in my lap sketching out ideas, seeking punchlines in a less than humorous day. Not a bad day, but not a funny one either.

So, I opt to take my “day of rest” on Sunday… With inlaws on the horizon due in at some point in the a.m… along with whoever else they invited. I never truly know how many will show up at the house for these whirlwind visits. What I CAN be assured of is that it will be a lively time, an INSANE time, and yet another chance to entice our local diner to THROW ALL OF US OUT!

It’s a good thing that I am not easily embarrassed or I would have to go into hiding afterwards for a millennium.

I am looking forward to total exhaustion at the end of the day… and more fodder for that graphic novel stewing in the works of my brain.

Okay, so I worked…

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

My day off was fraught with orders from our business and YES, scanning comics. And I said I wasn’t going to do that… The relatives came and went and were quite entertaining, homemade Chinese food, the usual insanity, leedle, leedle, leedle.

Now that I’m exhausted and deep into a large cup of “Prana”, a.k.a. life-force, a.k.a. coffee, I can pay attention to you.

You’ll notice this is a Sunday version of “Ouija Nite”… created before I decided that “Ouija Nite” would be a regular occurrence as a mid-week, paranormal, party night on Thursdays, a day synonymous with my college antics during the early Jurassic period.

This is “guys night out” for the Entities crew. You’ll notice Erna doesn’t show for these. She’s definitely anti-Ouija. Of course, guys like to do stupid things, like horse around with Ouija boards despite the risk.

It’s an amusing concept. Have a good snicker.
