Drawing Monsters…

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 11, 2009 at 7:31 am

Perhaps one of the reason I like to do a Ghost Hunter comic is that I love drawing monsters.

In my younger days (pre-cambrian era), Halloween was a well of creative inspiration. I loved making scary pumpkins, monsters, ghosts, and even fake hearts made out of flour and water paste… real gross once the mold caught on.

I remember freaking the crap out of the neighborhood kids. When my brother had given up the candy hunt he joined my haunting. I assigned him the task of pulling the ghost across the driveway. I decided to lay low under Dad’s Navy blanket in a lawn chair – completely invisible in the darkness.

The Bensinger boys approached. The elder was telling his little brother about the ghost that slid across the driveway. On cue, my bro yanked the ghost across. The two made their way to the door remarking about the cool pumpkins. Out of the shadows EVIL BURST UPON THEM! RAHHHHHHHH!!!! If there ever was a good reason for a pants-wetting that would have been it.

Those poor kids were terrorized. This was the cue to change demeanor and welcome them into the house for some candy! As much as I love frightening young children, I don’t want to leave ’em in that state. 😉

I’m sure that incident is legend in the Bensinger home these days as they tell their children of the haunted Comerford home. My parents NEVER get trick-or-treaters anymore. Dad is happy to consume the candy. And, somehow, I feel responsible.

Kids, Closets, Monsters

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 10, 2009 at 5:00 am

There is always a kid who is afraid of the dark. He or she is convinced there are monsters in the closet, under the bed, etc. That doesn’t stop them from jumping off the bed into the terrors monster territory and booking it for Mommy’s bedroom.

What if the monsters are real? What if the child is psychic and is attracting spirits? What if Grandma is visiting? What if there is an entity in the house that is nasty? …AND, what if Mommy doesn’t believe him or her?

When belief systems collide, more issues than possible ghosts arise. I think these occasions are opportunities to awaken to new possibilities. However, it often comes at the expense of the child. As adults, we need to separate fact from fiction. And, we need to have an open mind.

Children who are psychic can suffer tremendously until they find a mentor that can guide them in using their gifts. Support and unconditional love is important. If you have a youngster who is exhibiting psychic abilities, watch the TV show, Psychic Kids with Chip Coffee together.  Seek out help from a psychologist who has an open mind and works with children with these abilities.

Psychic and healing abilities are gifts. They should be encouraged. A child who comes into this world with these has a very important job to do. It is up to parents and teachers to guide them on their path so they can be what they are supposed to be.

As I step down from my soapbox…

Twitter Guest Draw

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 9, 2009 at 6:40 am

Today’s comic might be a bit confusing unless you are on Twitter. http://www.twitter.com (For those not on, it’s a great way to communicate with folks within your interest groups.)

Our Guest Draw is a regular Twitterer that I invited to do a stint on Entities-R-Us. Rather than taking her real personality and injecting it here, I opted to use her Twitter identity. You’ll notice her head is the avatar she uses to identify herself. Her name is the one she uses on Twitter as well.

Yes, she told me she was a Wiccan, so I decided Vera would try to draw her in for a little Merv abuse – payback for all his jokes. She also is avidly interested in paranormal investigation, though she has not done one yet.

I’d be interested in hearing comments on this cartoon… It’s certainly an “out there” as a concept. Anyone who knows me understands that I like to experiment pushing the creativity right up to the edge of the cliff, sometimes going right over into the ravine.

So, let me know if I’m off in the ravine, will ya?

Imps & Assorted News

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 8, 2009 at 8:53 am

The Imps have returned to wreak havoc in the Entities-R-Us headquarters.

These nature spirits are quite mischievous. Vera’s Wiccan, nature-orientated sensibilities are needed to sort them out. Obviously, she knows just how to speak to them.

It’s like horse whisperers… I like to think of myself as a horse whisperer. I usually am a good influence on a troubled horse. But like with all manner of animals and children, sometimes you just have to shout.

Off the beaten note: Again I’ll be showing up on Erie Paranormal’s BlogTalk Radio this evening at 10pm EST. Come and join in! http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ghsthunter346

Spontaneous Combustion…

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 7, 2009 at 5:55 am

I guess you’d call it paranormal.

Spontaneous combustion is one of those things that is off the chart weird. Not many of us can say that we had an Uncle Creosote who went up in smoke of his own accord. It’s just one of those things that has a 1 in 10 billion chance of happening to you… yet, you STILL consider it worth the worry.

I remember watching In Search Of as a kid and wondering if I was going to burst into flame as I lie in my bed at night. Somehow, there was always a part of the body that seemed warmer than normal. I didn’t lose much sleep over it. Why lose sleep if there is no real definitive proof that you NEED to lose sleep over it?

It seems most of the cases involve smoking in bed. I would hedge my bets that smokers who like to take a puff before they hit the hay… or after certain extra curricular activities, might want to rethink that. I have also heard that an over abundance of potassium in your system could cause a body to ignite. In other words, lay off the bananas.

The coolest thing about spontaneous combustion is the hilarity of it. For some reason, human ignition is amusing at best. So, I’ve commandeered it for an Entities ‘toon. Why should I miss out on all the good spontaneous jokes about human combustion?

Poor Merv. He’s such a victim in this comic strip… Aren’t you glad I didn’t invent YOU?! That’s why I was never elected God… I am just too sadistic in regards to my own creations. I’ve got a lot to learn on this Earthly plane before they promote me. Let it me known, that I am nice to most humans and particularly animals – even the un-cute ones. I just have this thing about abusing cartoon characters… 😉

Eat Cookies, Hunt Ghosts, and NEVER spontaneously combust… plan it out first.
