When Ghost Hunters Go to Far?

by Terri J. Garofalo on September 5, 2012 at 7:23 am

Solving murders? Finding Evidence? A paranormal group investigating a location where unsolved murders took place uncovered a potential clue. Worsley Paranormal Group of Manchester, U.K. was investigating the site where three of five children were killed by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, between 1963-1965.  The fifth body was never recovered, nor the murder weapon, a spade.

Beyond recording evps and video evidence over a series of investigations, the team uncovered possible PHYSICAL evidence in the form of a spade. It could be the murder weapon. While they turned it over to forensic specialists, it is unlikely to be proven due to corrosion and rot. The handle gone, there is not much to go on.

You would think their diligence would be well received by victim’s families… Well, a hornets’ nest has been stirred. Brother of murder victim Keith Bennett, Alan is on the warpath. Obviously a skeptic he is publicly attacking the team claiming they were abusive to him. He is upset Worsley has claimed to have captured EVPs of his deceased brother. The team denies any wrongdoing, and refutes Bennett’s claim of abuse.

The public battle wages on. You can check the link: http://www.hauntedsociety.com/profiles/blogs/1news10-murder-victims-family-worsley-paranormal-group-dead-wrong

I find this disturbing. As a paranormal investigator, I put my reputation on the line each time I take on a case. There are still a fair amount of skeptics out there; some are pretty hardcore and vocal. There is value in the research and findings we uncover. Sometimes it’s a comfort to the living. Sometimes it provides answers or confirms facts. But, anytime one takes on a case, there is danger in offending those fringe beings.

A big public battle can cement a reputation to where it sleeps with the fishes. It is too easy for a para team to suffer negative publicity. One naysayer claiming false evidence and your finished, with a long battle back to reestablish. It is nearly impossible to fight a skeptic. They are generally so glued to their beliefs; you can’t sway them. The worst of it is, they will fight to the death to prove you wrong.

Fear is the route of the issue. If these people were not frightened of what lies beyond the physical, they would not fight so hard. If they give in, their belief systems are be overturned… Change. Everyone hates change, especially skeptics. It is our job to understand of these difficult folk. Imagine someone walks into your life and says “pigs can fly!” That’s pretty much how they see it. What is worse, is it challenges all those religious lovelies their mother’s taught them… Suddenly, you have a bunch of frightened rabbits in the corner. Anyone who has raised bunnies knows they are quite fierce when cornered! I witnessed my childhood pet kicking the neighbor’s dog’s butt!

We can’t fight these people, so we should not. We have to allow an alternative perspective. To respect the opinions of skeptics helps them relax. I always say, you do not have to believe. We are all on different paths. Neither of us should force the other off their path. In the end, we meet on the other side, each with our own story.

House painting and cartooning…

by Terri J. Garofalo on September 2, 2012 at 10:17 am

Say what you like, but house painting can be a creative venture. I am in the process of rejuvenating the exterior of my home, something I won’t trust to anybody else… mostly because I don’t want to pay ’em. It’s a relatively simple affair that involves challenging my concern for heights and wearing “stonehenge” grey spots on my skin, clothes and glasses.

One must use ingenuity to dab paint into tricky places without marking up the trim, or dribbling on windows. But the real boon of house painting is the freedom to create behind the scenes. When I push paint, I dream up comics or write stories in my head. Artists take advantage of mundane tasks to delve into zone. Many ideas are born doing “nothing.”

Have a problem you need to solve? Paint your house!… or engage is some other mundane task. It opens the channel some awesome stuff!

I’ll catch you later after I come up with the “next big idea” as I apply color to my domain.

Juggling job and comics

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 29, 2012 at 8:22 pm

Lately, working a daily comic with a full time job as a creative director has been a challenge equivalent to hiking Mt. Everest without Sherpas… or as I would say, Sherpai ( it’s just funnier). Little time is left for the details surrounding the comic, such as writing, marketing, and ghost hunting. Though I’m still attempting to fit it all in.

I keep wishing to win the lottery so I can concentrate on cartooning and writing full time. Some people fall into making a living with it, but it just hasn’t landed for me. That doesn’t mean it won’t. I just means there are many miles I have to travel before I retire to ‘toonin’. One never knows who’s life you need to touch, or what you need to do before you settle into yourself.

So, I keep serving by creating and drawing the comic for others. For that is what I’m supposed to do, make things better by virtue of my art abilities.

Once I figure out how to collapse time, I will be able to do all of it with little effort. If anyone has any advice, I’m a willing ear!

BTW, I did miss Monday’s comic. I lost my dear aunt on Sunday to the other side. I did not have the energy to spend on humor at the time. But, I’m back in action. The living can’t stop for the crossed. It’s our job to keep at it until it’s our turn.

Guest Draw Charles Buckett

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 26, 2012 at 8:58 am

You may not recognize today’s guest draw. He’s a pal of mine on Twitter and Facebook. He’s always telling jokes worthy of aggravating Thor. He’s pretty funny in a corny sort of way. Charles is a poet and an author.

I’m here to turn you on to his books. He’s got a new one coming out soon. Meanwhile, check out his current one, Welcome To The Graveyard and Other Poems. You can find it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0091XFBUG

Enjoy!

And, Charles… I hope I only offended you modestly! HA!

Battles Continue After Death…

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 24, 2012 at 9:05 pm

Ghost stick around for one reason… unfinished business. Whatever the person does not finish in life, it attempts to in death… reliving all those things which stick it the head. Thor is no different. He and Genghis Kahn have developed a bit of paranormal rivalry over the centuries. While they are sometimes drinking buddies, Genghis has a nasty sense of humor.

Think about the stuff that bothers you the most… would you like to re-live it over and over? Well, it would be a good time to dismiss it before you carried it beyond into the next millennium. Sage advice not to dwell on the past has it’s merit!

Just think, you too could be Thor lurking in the same place you left 1000 years ago… Kinda sucks, right? Well, Thor does have his own Facebook page… (Ghost Thor’s Fan Page).
