Next Friday, I am privileged to be assisting on a paranormal investigation of Grinnell Library in Wappingers Falls with Haunted Hudson Valley. W ewill be leading a group of ghost hunter wannabes to introduce them to the wonders of the haunted realm. Hopefully, we’ll catch some evidence!

Carl’s Helmet…

I took some constructive criticism from a fellow ‘toonist and attempted to change Carl’s helmet to something more recognizably Roman. It seems his regular one looks a little too WWI.

However, I was not too far off base in the first place. A fine Google of Roman Helmets turned up a batch that did look a lot like Carl’s. This means I WAS paying attention in Latin class back in High School.

Aside: I took four years of Latin in High School… mostly  because I didn’t have to go to language lab and speak it. When I was younger I was VERY shy and quite intimidated about speaking in public. I’ve since reversed that trend and am now quite obnoxious. Latin was also said to be very difficult. I do love a challenge, so I chose to study a DEAD language instead of a living. Funny that it all leads to Entities-R-Us and a DEAD Roman ghost. Latin was actually really fun thanks to Mr. Kirkpatrick, the teacher. He was an entertaining, interesting wealth of knowledge. You could avoid lessons by sparking a story to which he’d go on for hours. I learned more about Roman history than I ever did in history class. I became a Latin translation whiz without ever understanding the grammar, much to the the chagrin of Mr. K. I have kept my purple, shredded Latin dictionary handy for all occasions. I use it frequently considering I live in the modern era. AND, I use liberal Latin seasoning in Entities-R-Us. Where else would Vlad get his incantations?

Back to Carl’s helmet. You can see in Monday’s comic that I tried a new version. It just wasn’t Carl. He’s a little dorky and insecure, so a fierce, full-fledged brush-top model just didn’t jive with the light-loafer-ed ghost.

And so on Tuesday, Carl will resolve his helmet crisis.

I also want to add, since I posted the picts of Josh Gates’ cutout getting mangled by my bird, my Destination Truth Vehicle left me stranded at the gas pump, then at home. It’s off to the garage for some repair action. I now know it’s the battery cable. If you bang on it, the electricity comes back on. Otherwise, it’s stone dead… I MEAN DEAD! There’s not even a ghost of a car there. Pray for me while I drive to work that it doesn’t crap out en route! LOL Next time I’ll be more courteous to cutout characters that I build.

How to Make A Josh Gates Doll and Send it on Adventure!

I posted this on Facebook, then realized most of you would rather read it here!

1. Materials: old piece of matt board, pencil, kneaded eraser (no that’s not a turd in pict), sharpie, coffee & coaster to protect ancient coffee table from its kryptonite. Sketch out Josh on board, make sure his expression is adventurous. Sip Coffee.

2. Ink in Josh with sharpie, then use the eraser to remove pencil lines. Sip coffee, forget to place on coaster.

3. Cut out Josh with scissors (you can use an exacto knife it you’re brave, but I already sport a slightly skinnier finger from mounting photos in college, so I’ve opted for scissors. Become so engrossed in what you are doing your coffee grows cold.

4. Discover a monster. In this case the Greenbirdosaurus Rex was available for demonstration. (Otherwise known as Albus.)

5. Provoke the monster.

6. Engage is a life or death struggle.

7. Battle for evidence to prove the existence of Greenbirdosaurus Rex and that you are not a crazy person for believing in the Truth.

8. Regroup.

9. Go back for more…

10. Survive with minor injuries.

I felt really bad sending mini-Josh to be mutilated by Greenbird… Albus hates little cutout dolls. So, I rescued Josh before he could suffer further damage. Sorry Josh, it was all in the name of entertainment.

Mutilated Mini Gates has been retired from active duty, although he can hunt Cookie Monster who sits on my computer speaker if he wants.

Inspired by Michelle Belanger

Today’s comic was an idea fed to me by Michelle Belanger of Paranormal State. She mentioned to me she was reviewing audio evidence from an investigation when she heard a growl… Further analysis proved it to be an investigator snoring having fallen asleep. She asked me if I have done a snoring comic before. To answer that, I’m not sure! I write so many comics, I don’t remember them all.

So, I decided to use this for today’s cartoon. Michelle also inspired tomorrows Paranormal State Guest Draw. Apparently more than one person has ripped a snore during “dead time”… She say’s its fun to wake them up and freak them out. THIS obviously needed to become a comic.

So, thanks Michelle for listening to the universe and passing the comic message back to me for rendering!

Paranormal Possibilities

Yesterday’s cartoon deserved a proper blogpost… But alas, I was busy sorting out other Entities-R-Us details. At least you got the comic!

The Etch-A-Sketch cartoon discussed using the toy in question as a paranormal investigation device. While I wrote it to be funny, there is a chunk of seriousness in it. The Etch-A-Sketch is easily operated by turning the knobs to create a lines to draw a picture or spell words.

It would seem an easy task for a spirit who can operate a flashlight or manipulate a light switch to turn these knobs. My thoughts are to place one in plain view with a DVR camera on it and begin to ask questions encouraging a response through the Etch-A-Sketch. I doubt you’d get words unless you had a particularly talented ghost. However, just the manipulation of the object seems to me highly intriguing.

This would also be useful with a child spirit… particularly if the ghost was from the era where the Etch-A-Sketch was popular. I really want to bring this to the Shanley hotel, leave it where the little boy ghost roams with a camera trained on it. We already captured an apparition around toy balls, so I can just imaging what this might do…
