So much for a proper series of comics…

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 18, 2011 at 6:43 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

I’ve thrown in the towel on organization. Last week I mixed up the paranormal monster series. The comic I ran on Saturday, August 13 was supposed to follow the one I ran this past Tuesday. Confused? I hope not too much! Fortunately, I write each comic to stand on their own, humor-wise. Now, I also interrupted the series with Sunday’s Guest Draw… since I run color on Sunday’s, that’s why I did it. Besides, I told Michelle Belanger I was running her Guest Draw on that day. Promises must be kept! 🙂

TODAY! – I up and did it again! I tossed in Spirit Nite, since it runs on Thursdays. And, yes, I interrupted the series again. Sorry about that. But, you have to admit it’s all still funny. Spirit Nite, formerly Ouija Nite, runs on Thursdays – Ghost Hunter’s Night Out. Sometimes I usurp this, but since this relates to a story I ran before this last one, I had to put it in.

At least now you have some insight into how my mind works. I always have several scenarios going at once. It is inevitable some of them get mixed up.

I’m going to clean my mental office today. Ha!

Enjoy! Eat Cookies, Hunt Ghosts!

Questions from Little Fans Get Answers!

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 15, 2011 at 9:16 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

My team IndyPara is attracting some attention apparently. We have some fans in little Ian, 7 and his brother Devon, 5. The two of them got together to make up a list of questions for my teammate Donna Parish-Bischoff and I. Below is Ian and Devon, their letter and the questions we answered.

Devon Marano, fan of IndyPara.

Ian Marano, budding ghost hunter

Letter from Ian and Devon Marano - Entities-R-Us and IndyPara fans.

Questions from Ian and Devon sent by their mom, Dawn.

I hope you understand KidSpeak.   The boys wrote down their questions and then read them to me and I typed them exactly as they wanted me to ask you.  I will try to add subtitles when needed.  Good Luck.

Questions for Miss Terri from Deven:

1) “Do you sleep with your hat on?  Does your hat ever fall off if you get scared?”

No, I don’t sleep with my hat on, it would fall off. I haven’t been scared enough for my hat to fly off my head yet.

2) “Do you live all the way across the world?”

I live far away in New York State in the town of Hyde Park where President Franklin Delano Roosevelt lived.

3) “Are ghosts scary or funny?”

Some ghosts want to be scary and try to scare me. But most of them are nice and many are funny. Some make jokes on EVPs.

4) “Do you like that I put arms on Ian’s ghost?”

Sometime I draw arms on my ghosts when they need them. I like the arms on the ghost. Ian can always draw more ghosts. I draw and sometimes someone spills something on it or accidentally writes on it. But that’s okay, because I know I can draw more later.

(FYI:  Ian drew the first ghost on the letter and Deven added arms to it when Ian wasn’t looking, and then the fun started…Deven had to show Ian that he drew arms on his ghost….and then Ian cried because Deven ruined his picture…and then Ian punched him…and then Deven tried to rip the letter out of Ian’s notebook –  Luckily I broke it up just in time to save your letter —  Another fun Marano family project!!). J

5) “Do you like my ghost hat? – It has horns.”  (Deven drew the second ghost and it has a “Thor” hat on).

You draw very good ghost hats! I like Ian’s Thor hat too. I put hats on ghosts so they look different from each other. Most of the time you can’t see ghosts. Sometimes you see a mist. So, I draw the mist like scribbles of ghost energy.

6) Are you scared of the dark?  (Deven said to tell you that he’s not scared of the dark like Ian.  He likes to sleep in the dark but Ian don’t) (and then Ian punched him again). J

I am not scared of the dark. I don’t know why. When I was your age I lived in a old farmhouse with a stone basement that connected to the barn with a dark passage way full of cobwebs. I got used to going through this to see the cows in the morning. Once you get used to the dark, it’s not scary. You just can’t see too much, so you have to be careful and not put your feet down before your sure it’s safe.

Questions for Miss Donna from Deven:

1) “Do you live all the way across the world?”

No , we live in Hyde Park , NY maybe a little more than 300 miles from you.

2) “Are you scared of the sink or did you like the sink?”  (He said to tell you he is not scared of the sink.  He likes to rewind the sink part).

I thought it was a rat crawling under the sink at first because the sounds it was making. That is why I jumped a little bit.  But normally ghosts do not scare me at all.  I actually love talking to them.

3) “Is Mr. Nibbles really, really small?  Is he smaller than a cat?”

Mr. Nibbles is about the same size of our smallest cat, Molly. He weighs in at 9 pounds 4 ounces.

4) “Are ghosts swirly where you live?”  “Do you have circle ghosts too?” …..(He is referring to Terri’s swirly ghosts vs orbs)  The boys think that orbs are ghosts.  They like to pick out all the orbs in our pictures and they count them and tell us how many “ghosts” we found). J

Ghost can be any shape they wish to be at the moment .  Sometimes they look just like regular people only see-thru and sometimes they look like balls of light very much so like in the Wizard of Oz when Glenda the Good Witch appears to the munchkins

* Orbs in photographs sometimes are not ghost’. Sometimes they can be because of moisture in the air, a bug flying by or smoke (if someone is smoking) BUT I am not ruling out that Orb’s cannot be spirits

5) “Can I eat at Smalley’s Inn?  Is there lights on in the day or just sun?”

Smalley’s Inn does serve food there. They have the lights on at night and some lights on in the day. You can ghost hunt there with the lights on.

6) “Does your ghost detect have colors or only white lights?”  (your EMF detector)

Our EMF ( ghost meter) has an array of lights that go from Yellow, orange  all the way to RED which means the strongest connection or the closer that the spirit/ ghost is to the meter.

Questions for Miss Terri from Ian:

1) “Your cartoons are awesome!  Do you draw them all yourself?”

Thank you, Ian! Yes, I draw them all myself. I even make up all the funny stories that go with them.

2) “Does it take a long time to draw so much?”

It does take a lot of time, but I’m pretty fast because I’ve been doing it for so long.

3) “Do you ever find ghosts in the daytime?”

I have found more ghosts in the daytime than at night. Ghosts are there all the time, we just don’t see them. Because they can make light, it is easier to spot them at night. Also, it is quieter at night so you can hear if they make a sound. I have seen mists and an apparition in the day time and with the lights on.

4) “What kind of cookies do you like?   (Ian said to tell you that he doesn’t like peanuts or peanut butter). J

I like to eat and to make chocolate chip cookies and meringue cookies. I bake awesome cookies!

5) “When can you visit me?”

If we come to your town some day, we might be able to visit you. Where do you live?

6) “Where is Paranormal Valley?  Is that where you live?”

Paranormal Valley is the name of the show. The Hudson Valley is

the place it refers to. It is in New York. My town is in the Hudson Valley.

7) “Do you stay out after midnight?”  (Ian said to tell you that he gets too tired after midnight). J

When I’m on investigation I am out way past midnight. I get tired too. I usually go to bed early. It’s just as easy to hunt ghosts in the day though. You don’t need to stay up late.

8) “Are you sisters?” (Miss Donna and Miss Terri).

Donna and I are good friends. We’re not related. It would be too crazy if we were in the same family.

Questions for Miss Donna from Ian:

1) “Do you like Scooby Doo?”

Scooby Doo is awesome I used to watch that show  all the time!

2) “Do you ever get scared of ghosts?”

No Ghost do not scare me , when you treat them nice , they treat you nice most of the time.

3) “Do you ever run when you get scared?”

Running is not safe , you can get hurt a lot worse if you run away . Ghost cannot hurt you .  IF you feel scared , calmly say to yourself you will be ok and look for mom and dad right away.

4) “Do you get scared when the power goes out?”

No , the power going out is fine , as long as  you have a good flash light, you will be ok .

5) “Do you turn the lights off or do you turn the whole power off?”   (He said to tell you that he doesn’t like it when the whole power goes out.)

When Terri and I do an investigation we prefer the power be shut off so we can concentrate and not have any electrical interferance conflict with our electronic devices to hear , feel or detect a ghost .

6) “When can you visit me?”

Terri and I will hopefully be broadening our horizons hopefully within the next year .  We had so many investigations going on in New York that we became booked.

7) “Is it really dark when you are at Smalley’s Inn?  Do they have TV’s there?”

Smalleys has lights because it is a restaurant and yes they have a TV for the customers to watch as they eat dinner .  We conducted our investigation after they closed at 2am in the morning until 6am .

So we shut off the lights when the customers went home.

I am honored to have a positive impact on youngsters. It makes doing the comic and doing paranormal productions much more worthwhile.

Thanks Ian and Devon for being cool fans!

Paranormal State Guest Draw Sunday

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 13, 2011 at 7:48 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

Michelle Belanger prompted me to write this one by pitching the idea on Twitter. Of course, I ran with it. The basic concept was hers, I just added the flavor and fun… and ghosts. It will show up on Sunday as usual. So, enjoy it!

I’ve been a bit lax on the Guest Draws. They take more time as I have to pluck around looking at photos of people and establishing character in my trademark few quick lines. Also, you guys have no idea how long it takes to color these suckers in. Ha! My schedule has been dicey, so I’ve been reluctant to do heavy coloring.

I have more guest draws lined up, including John Zaffis. His promoter contacted me recently. So, I have to get to that one. Then there are some random ones to attack.

A daily comic is quite the undertaking with all I’m juggling right now. It’s tough to keep the standards up as my main focus is on the masters degree I’m pursuing. I also have a number of paranormal investigations coming up. We hit Patchett house the end of the month. So, look out for more EVPs and hopefully something else on film!

Ghost TV

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 9, 2011 at 8:00 am

I want to turn you on to an article on Ghost Village by Deonna Kelli-Sayed. Her book,

Paranormal Obsession: America’s Fascination with Ghosts & Hauntings, Spooks & Spirits, will be released this coming month and is well worth the read. This month on Jeff Belanger’s Ghost Village she writes, In Defense of Paranormal Reality Shows. Kelli-Sayed, addresses the rift between the paranormal community and the TV genre. She also suggest the importance of the emergence of these shows. I highly recommend the read.

http://www.ghostvillage.com/resources/2011/features_08082011.shtml

The advent of Ghost Hunters, Paranormal State, Ghost Adventures, GHI, etc., has lead to an awakening of the idea we are more than just these bodies on this earth. There is a spirit world. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to deny this. Whether you approve of the methods of the paranormal stars, or you think there is little reality going on here, you cannot deny the positive impact these programs have had in bringing to light the idea of paranormal experience. It is no longer taboo to talk about “weird things” going on in one’s home. Suddenly, there is support for those who feel threatened.

Paranormal teams are forming all over the globe. With all these researchers on the hunt, we are likely to establish a greater understanding of what we cannot see or touch. We are progressing as spiritual beings by looking toward what we really are, spirit… or energy for you science-based sorts. Whatever your perspective, you are moving toward something greater than your physical self.

Food for thought!

Haunted Highways Guest Draw

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 6, 2011 at 1:21 pm
Posted In: Entities Blog

Sunday features Patrick Burns and Marley Harbuck-Gibson of the paranormal road show “Haunted Highways.”

These two intrepid ghost hounds trespass the country in search of haunted locations. I’ve been meaning to draw this one for a while. I’m glad I waited as I had the brilliant idea of including their cats, Madi and Boo. I watched these two kittens grow up on Facebook the last few months. They were too cute to miss out on a Guest Draw.

Most of you know Patrick Burns from the TV show Haunting Evidence, TruTV, and recently as a judge on Paranormal Challenge, Travel Channel. For those of you who are not familiar with Marley Harbuck-Gibson, she is a published author of the Ghost Huntress Series.

Check out their Haunted Highways journeys on their website! http://haunted-highways.com/

You will notice I based this Guest Draw on the episode about James Dean’s ghost.

Enjoy!
