Out of order to stay in order…

Creativity has no rules. Drawing this week’s batch of cartoons, the usual Thursday Spirit Nite wound up running Saturday. It was all in the name of keeping the cartoons in sequential order. This is my cartoon and it’s up to me to do any rule breaking. What’s the use of rules unless you aim to break ’em?

You just never know when and how a story line is going to develop within the framework of a cartoon. I sit down to draw and I can only draw what shows up for me. This series was sparked from a comment Thor made on his Facebook fan page – Ghost Thor’s Fan Page. Thor was complaining about being “saged” – skunked out by burning sage, which is said to drive spirits out of a building. I thought about why a ghost would be forced to leave the premises. The obvious reason would be a lousy smell. Since sage has a peculiar, strong odor when burned, I felt this would be a likely reason to cause a ghost grief.

The real reason behind it, is unknown to me. I’m sure there are a gazillion psychics out there with their own theories on the subject. How would we really know? I guess I’ll have to ask the next ghost I find on an investigation.

Speaking of investigation, my team and I were supposed to check out a possible barn haunting this weekend. Alas, circumstances – some tragic, put this one on hold for now. I am amazed how many “best laid plans” that run amok due of hurricanes, deaths, and clients actually FORGETTING that we are supposed to check out their paranormal problem. That being said, we have a bunch of stuff lined up in the next couple of months. You’ll be in for some real paranormal treats!

MEAD…

Those of you who are fans of Ghost Thor from Entities-R-Us, have heard him discuss the wonders of the Viking beverage of choice, Mead. This week I discovered Mead at my local liquor store. I am about to give you a review on the stuff.

This is Ragnar’s Reserve from Honeyrun. The label and the back of the bottle are worth the torment of the brew…

Every now and then I get punished for buying wine by the label. Most of the time I fair well. Let’s just say Mead is not my thing. The irony or ironies is this Mead smells and seems to taste like my Great Grandma Baker’s apartment. I haven’t thought about this in years since she left us in the late 1970s… I think the date is close. I was treated to reminiscing about her gruff demeanor, her veined, heavy knuckled working hands. I was reminded of the stories of how she shot her own deer (which turned out to be false), and how she loved to fry up kidneys on the stove. She was a tough, hard-working, New England farm wife – an honest, hard-core woman that I am honored to be related to.

So, the Mead may have tasted a little gamy, but it brought back some wonderful memories.
I will finish off the bottle myself tomorrow (Rob refused it). We’ll see if it improves now the the air has hit it. Some things need to be aired out… like old-lady apartments.

At least I can now get into character better when I write for Thor. Now I know why he’s such a nasty sort!

I would try another bottle at some point. Perhaps this one was a bit screwy…

According to my hubby, the cork came out way to easily… So, it may not be the Mead’s fault. I am returning the bottle for a another go round with a better seal. STAY TUNED!
