KJ Guest Draw and Culinary Spirits!

by Terri J. Garofalo on September 26, 2010 at 10:10 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

Today’s Guest Draw is K.J. McCormick from Ghost Hunters, SyFy! He agreed to be a Guest Draw and has proved to be one of the more gracious Guest Draws yet!

It’s always fun to work with someone who has a good sense of humor, topping off a cool personality. It just makes them easier to draw.

When I do a Guest Draw, it’s not about the visual aspect as much as it is the personality. I look to capture the body language and aura of the individual. Sometimes I’m not privy to that information having not seen them in action, so it becomes a crap-shoot. I have to hope I get the inflections right.

You can tell by my work that I’m not a traditional caricature artist. My works is closer to the simplicity of Schultz’s Peanuts. What I want to portray is expression and feeling more than an accurate depiction of one’s physical appearance. I want the reader to know who they are. After all, we are more than just our bodies.

That is some of the science behind the Guest Draw and much of my other work.

Off-the-Cuff Culinary Investigation

I’ve been a little blog dormant since I’ve been busy… I also took Friday and Saturday off to attend my spouse’s Alumni reunion at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park.

Some of you might know the place is supposed to be haunted by a Jesuit priest (the place was originally a seminary). Ghost hunter that I am, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear the batteries down on my digital voice recorder.

I ran it throughout the tour. It was a noisey time to seek EVPs, but I was willing to carefully sift to see if anyone ELSE joined us. The following day, I struck out on my own to get close to the attic where the spirit is supposed to reside. While I could not get past the locked door, I did do a session outside of it.

There seems to be an energy there. I could sense that psychic pressure even as I began to mount the stairs. In the coming days, I’ll peruse the evidence. We’ll see!

I do not advise going out in the public without permission. I was on the Culinary campus as a guest and was given free rein to roam. I did not cross any lines or break into any places that were not publicly accessible. – Just so ya know…

Anywho… Eat Cookies, Hunt Ghosts!

Dolls… Robert the Haunted Doll, etc.

by Terri J. Garofalo on September 22, 2010 at 8:14 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

Suddenly, we see Vlad has a sensitive side… Oops! Let that one slip! Poor guy just can’t throw out his demon doll.

Funny thing is, as much as I find dolls creepy, I develop and attachment to them, no matter how ugly, weird or scary. There seems to be a “living” aspect to them. This goes for stuffed animals etc… I don’t even punch my pillow because I’d feel guilty about wounding it. (Yes, call me strange… I can take it.)

There are teachings expressing everything is alive, everything is an aspect of creation and therefore, should be honored. The Native Americans (which some of my heritage comes from) felt spirit resided in everything. So, the doll having a spirit of it’s own is not too far off base.

This brings us to haunted dolls…

In the Key West Martello Museum of Florida and former resident of the Otto family in the late 1800s, there resides a doll called Robert. Robert has a reputation for talking with children, torturing, and walking around in his attic.

Robert was created by a servant of the Ottos. It was well known the family was wealthy and unkind to those who served them. There are just some folks you don’t mess with… the servant cared for their son Robert Eugene (Gene) Otto. She was a practitioner of Voodoo. The life-sized, straw-stuffed doll became the best friend of young Robert.

His parents would here him talking to his doll; answers followed, but not in the voice of their child… So who was talking back? The legend says it was Robert the doll responding to his young charge. The Ottos would hear the doll giggle and claimed to see it running about the house.

Poltergeist activity kicked up about the doll, overturning things in the boy’s room, scaring him. Subsequently, Robert the doll was relegated to the attic. Guests of the house would experience the sounds of giggling and someone walking in the attic.

When Gene died in 1972, another family bought the home. Their ten-year-old daughter discovered Robert. To this day she claims the doll tortured her.

So what of Robert now? He sits in his chair at the museum… just hanging around for the next adventure.

Is this doll haunted? I would suspect there is a spirit of a young child attached to it. Children can be mischievous and would likely create a ruckus if they did not get their way – so in spirit as they were in life…

The museum reports Robert is still actively running about and giggling away.

GUEST DRAW SUNDAY – K.J. McCormick of Ghost Hunters!

Yes, I cornered K.J., new addition to SyFy’s Ghost Hunters, for a Guest Draw on Twitter recently. He is excited to join the Guest Draw Archives of Entities-R-Us! (TO ACCESS GUEST DRAW ARCHIVES: search GD)

K.J. admitted to digging through the archives and is a new fan of Entities-R-Us. I’m sure he’ll wind up in a few more Guest Draws since If find him easy to draw! Hee hee.

Also coming up is Michelle Belanger, psychic medium from Paranormal State. She awesomely agreed to let me abuse her vampire nature. AND, Alexandra Holzer is also on deck! She’ll lead off after K.J. as her comic is inked already.

Eat Cookies, Hunt Ghosts, Read Comics!

Creepy Dolls…

by Terri J. Garofalo on September 20, 2010 at 7:17 am
Posted In: Entities Blog
Responding to a comment about today’s comic about Zak Bagans being creeped out by dolls… Isn’t EVERYONE creeped out by dolls? I know I am! Of course I had some scary looking dolls when I was a kid.

I wasn’t big on dolls, I preferred stuffed animals or my little steam shovel toy. (Yes, there used to be steam shovels, they are now called excavators… I had old toys.)

One of my dolls was really ugly… I mean BUTT UGLY. It had a rubber head with this horrific crying face. If you shook it, it cried (these dolls would be banned today for they promoted shaking babies, which doesn’t work out to well for the baby…) Still I had an affection for it, probably because it was ugly. A ghost hunter pal of mine, Rusty procured one. He sent me a pict. This doll was paranormally stripped at a cemetery. It was alone in the car. When Rusty returned to his car, the dolls clothes were OFF! Weird, eh?!

This is Rusty’s Dolly…

Rusty's Precious Angel...

This is exactly what my doll’s face looked like, except mine was pinker.

Currently, there is an old doll at my Mom’s house in my old room. This one looks innocent enough, until you roll over in bed and look at it closely. I took a pict of this one Thanksgiving night. Tell me if it doesn’t creep you out in low lighting…

Innocent? Perhaps, but I know better...

Let’s hear from all of you who are creeped out by dolls! Come on… Admit it!

Also, watch Vlad’s doll dealings this week. It seems he may have a sensitive side behind those frowning eyes…

Search Entities-R-Us Guest Draw Comics

by Terri J. Garofalo on September 19, 2010 at 10:14 am

I worked like the dickens yesterday to get through most of the archives hooking up the comics to the store so you can buy prints if you like.

Also, I’ve tagged the Guest Draws with “gd” so that you can search the Guest Draws easily. All you need to do is type gd into the search and you will have a complete list of all the Guest Draws of your favorite Paranormal Celebrities.

I’m very proud of myself! LOL It’s nice to have a noodle that can get around lousy website searchers… I’m still working on how you can get only comics and not all my assorted blog rants. We’ll see how smart I am… Stay tuned!

(I hope I don’t have to go back through all 730 comics and tag each one… Ouch!)
