NYC Comic Con

Self Portrait with Coffee at Comic Con.

Friday I journeyed to New York City  for the annual Comic Conference. I chose to go during professional hours to scope the scene for next year when I’ll bring Entities-R-Us to it.

I met some awesome folks, including Brad Guigar from Evil Inc. and one of the coauthors of How to Make Webcomics. Loads of networking and meeting with my peers… hanging out with my pal Donna from Haunted Hudson Valley… taking it all in… and getting completely overwhelmed… – that was the day.

Donna from Haunted Hudson Valley

I did meet up with a twitter pal, SurfsideJack or John McCarthy, another cartoonist. He recognized the hat and the Entities-R-Us shirt. He said I look just like my avatar on Twitter. Snicker… that was the plan.

'Toonists Ken Wong and John McCarthy

If you have a chance to check out a comic conference please do! There is no better place to people watch… with the exception of a carnival. If you want to draw amusing characters, inspiration abounds!

I went for the express purpose of spawning ideas for how I would approach a conference, what kinds of products I would sell, how to display it all… yada yada.

Here’s a glimpse!

THOR GETS FACEBOOK PAGE!

by Terri J. Garofalo on October 5, 2010 at 7:14 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

Yeah, I did it… I created a Facebook Page for Entities-R-Us ghost Thor. If you want to be a fan you can find him searching: Ghost Thor’s Fan Page

So far, he’s been fairly vocal on his fan site. Drop in, say hello, leave some comments on his wall.

Today, you may notice Thor has discovered he is actually a Visigoth and not a Viking (at least in that lifetime). So, all of you who thought the Vikings sacked Rome, you were wrong.

I was wrong! So, I had to do some historical sidestepping… Thank God for reincarnation! When you have a ghost character, you can always play the reincarnations card. I actually did some major research in order to piece together plausible historical facts in regards to Thor and Carl. I even managed to tie in Attila the Hun properly. I’ll post all of it at some point.

This is what I love about creating characters… the development. I am amazed how these two ghost characters took off. I had no idea when I dreamed them up as supporting cast members for Ouija Nite, that people would respond so well to them. They are really fun to write for too.

Enjoy Thor’s fan page. More is upcoming in regards to Thor and Carl… in fact a very intriguing series is on it’s way. Stay tuned!

NYC Comic Con & Christmas

by Terri J. Garofalo on October 4, 2010 at 7:29 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

Friday I head to New York Comic Con to do some networking. I decided not to get a booth this year as I’m still in the building process with Entities. It seemed like a better idea to scope the scene and meet publishers and peers.

Since I’m going as a professional, I get to dive in early before the fans converge. Donna Davies from Haunted Hudson Valley will be joining me. The two of us are going to tear the place apart looking for ideas, connections, etc…

Dustin Pari from Ghost Hunters International is going to be there. So, hopefully, I can skitch in for a chat with him. It would be good to get the lowdown on when Dustin and Barry’s new book will be released. I’m especially interested as I did the illustrations for it.

GET YOUR CHRISTMAS SHOPPING DONE EARLY!

My pal Dawane Harris of Spirit Diggers blogtalk radio has a new book out!

Ghost Hunting with a Spirit Digger is now available on Create Space… and I assume Amazon too. Check it out! Anyone interested in becoming a ghost hunter will enjoy this informative book. It looks to be a good read! Dawane is a seasoned paranormal investigator with some top notch insight.

While you are at it…

It’s you LAST CHANCE to get DUSTIN PARI GUEST DRAW T-shirts, Mug and Poster! I’ll be switching it up once again! So, get at it. The 15th it will swap off to the next one (haven’t decided who’s on deck yet).

Alexandra Holzer Sunday’s Guest Draw

by Terri J. Garofalo on October 2, 2010 at 7:53 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

Alexandra Holzer, the daughter of the paranormal guru himself, Hans Holzer is up for Sunday’s Guest Draw! She is an author, screenplay writer, columnist, radio host and comedian! In addition to the paranormal field, she is also active as a spiritualist and humanitarian. Yes, a well rounded wonderful sort! 🙂

Check her out at http://www.hauntingholzer.com

WHAT IS VLAD THINKING? Saturday’s comic is a study in cartoon expression. It’s one of the things I love about cartooning – Just a few simple lines and a complete emotion is visible. The question is, what IS Vlad thinking?

Weigh in with your thoughts! I’m curious if they measure up to mine… which I will reveal later.

Culinary Institute EVP Session

by Terri J. Garofalo on September 28, 2010 at 8:29 am

The Culinary Institute of America is reputably haunted by a Jesuit Priest they call “Father Murphy”. He prefers the attic space for some reason. Since I was there for Alumni weekend, I decided to use my time to do an impromptu EVP session. As I promised, I went through some of the evidence I collected. This particular one was taken in the stairwell up by the attic. As usual, I started recording as I entered. I’m glad I did as I got a couple of hits on the way up the stairs.

Ironically, I felt as if a presence met me at the stairs as I ascended. Here I got a hello or help response. This is hard to hear with the noise. It sounds breathy. I haven’t discounted it being another sound and not paranormal…

As I hit the top floor landing there was a similar voice saying “Hi, who are you?”

I went down a hallway heading for the outer stairs. You’ll hear me whisper, “Is there somebody else in here?” Then you’ll hear a response, “I’m back.” After that, I resume talking.

As I boarded the stairs, someone said, “Much higher.”

This one was an odd groan.

I asked the spirit if he loved this place. You can hear a faint, “yes.”

I asked if they felt as if they were respected by the institute. “Oh, yes.”

I explained that speaking into my recorder would allow me to hear them. It seems as if I got a quizzical response, “I’m sorry?”

I asked if there were any messages he would like to relay to the management. This response is faint but it is there! He apparently doesn’t like the condition of his attic space. “Dirty… Empty room.” I assume he wants it cleaned and all the old files and crap taken away.

This last EVP is a different voice. I’m not sure if it didn’t carry from somewhere else in the building. This building has the ability to transfer sound really well. Interestingly, after this bit of profanity, my Jesuit friend made himself scarce.

Weigh in on these. I’d like to know what you think. The responses are faint. I don’t think this entity is particularly powerful or just is not interested in being the center of attention.

Out of respect, I did not use my camera (except to photograph the door to the attic. The Institute asks tourists not to take pictures out of respect to the students.

I still have more evidence to plough through.
