Occam’s Razor & Ghost Hunting

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 21, 2009 at 8:24 am

This months BSPHI Newsletter discusses using Occam’s Razor philosophies in conjunction with paranormal investigation.

It’s quite informative and really needs to be checked out! There is always a link to it here on Entities-R-Us. community.icontact.com/p/bsphinews

I would also like to direct you to a paranormal site I discovered via Twitter:

hauntedcuriosities.com

And now, I’m off to write some comic strips!

We’ve Got a Poltergeist! Now What?

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 20, 2009 at 5:50 am
Posted In: Entities Blog

That’s the question I got this week from an old friend I haven’t heard from in a while.

The trouble began in August of 2008 after the elderly neighbor passed away. The faucet in the master bath turned on low of it’s own accord. Some time later the downstairs faucet did the same thing. Then the cat bowl moved off it’s mat 12 inches away without any spillage. A door that was open was found closed (no drafts or explainable reasons). Then the master bath was found going full force and my friends eyeglasses were mysteriously in the sink.

The water could be a likely pressure or valve issue. Plumbing LIKES to pretend it’s haunted. It takes a seriously large, intelligent cat to move a water bowl without spilling it (I have had large, intelligent house cats who could pull it off, but would rather spill the water in order to watch me have a S**t-fit). If the door has been debunked, then we may have something. There has been 365 days of on and off activity.

What got me about this story was how frightened he was. He admitted that this stuff really freaked him out, especially being a scientifically orientated guy. Engineers sport those tendencies. He was concerned that he might have the makings of an Amityville Horror.

It’s time to take the horror out of the haunting. Ghosts are people. They still ARE people. They just don’t have bodies anymore. They can still think and react just as they did in life. So, if indeed this is my friend’s neighbor and this neighbor was a nice guy, then there is nothing to worry about.

Ghosts get a bad rap for scaring people. We can’t see them normally. So, we don’t pay attention to them. If they want our attention, they may go to extreme lengths to get it. Often they are angry that no one is noticing them.

Hollywood has fueled the belief that astral beings want nothing better than to do you in or, at least, severely injure you. It is nearly impossible for that to happen. It takes a lot of energy to muster up even a shove. While slaps and scratches have happened to some, it is usually the result of provoking. Nobody has been disembowelled as far as I know…

The best line of defense is to talk to the entity. Acknowledgement may be all they want. Express what behaviors you want stopped. Explain why. Show the spirit proper respect as you would a guest in your home.

The kindest thing you can do is to encourage the entity to go toward the light, to see their family and friends again. Tell them the ones they love await them. Also, tell them they have been forgiven and will be welcomed no matter what had happened during their former life. If they can’t find a white light, tell them to go to the local funeral parlor. One is bound to turn up!

If you find the activity gets worse, or nasty things begin to happen – really negative poltergeist activity, get help. That could be in the form of a priest, psychic medium or a paranormal group that has had success in removing negative energies. DO NOT CONSULT A OUIJA BOARD!!! YOU COULD BRING IN EVEN MORE NASTIES!

When paranormal activity crops up, don’t assume the worst. The likelihood of it becoming another “A Haunting in Connecticut” is next to impossible. Besides, Hollywood likes to exaggerate a bit… A LOT!

No stress. Talk to your haunting “house guests.”

UFOs

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 19, 2009 at 4:38 am

I figured I’d do a tribute to UFOs. After all, they are paranormal in nature and therefore, most interesting to us adventurers of the unknown.

I have never seen one. I’m not so sure I’m up for that. Though, I’m curious as hell!

The day one shows up and blows up my “in” box, I’ll probably be forever grateful! That would certainly simplify matters…

Just hand it off to the Demonologist…

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 18, 2009 at 5:24 am

Today’s cartoon dumps the load of humor in Vlad’s lap.

The Entities Demonologist, Vlad, is the one in charge of dark forces, demons and exorcisms. He might be considered a member of the “Spirit Police Squad.”

Personally, I’d rather have someone else in charge of heroics… However, Arno and Merv have not trouble handing over the responsibility of a vacuumed ghost with evil possibilities.

After drawing haunted vacuum bags, I plan to keep an eye on my canister vac for possible poltergeist activity. It’s one thing to suck up ants, it’s entirely different when you suck up a sour spirit.

Hopefully, I won’t get any demonic EVPs from the thing…

Brian Harnois

by Terri J. Garofalo on August 17, 2009 at 5:39 am

Brian Harnois has done three “Guest Draws” with ERU. He’s a good sport and doesn’t seem to mind being abused cartoonally. Brian recently had a life-changing diagnosis. For more information in his own words, go to his MySpace page. I wish him well. He will be better for it even though he has a long road to travel.

Some destinations are more amazing for the obstacles surmounted.

Go for it buddy!
