Photo Comics Again!

by Terri on July 2, 2013 at 10:00 pm
Posted In: Entities Blog

Those of you who are diehard Entities-R-Us fans will remember the first photo comics I did during the Fourth of July Holiday two years ago… I think? You can backtrack on the archives to discover these.

I was spawned by creatures of habit (Hobbits) who migrate annually on the Fourth to a family lake house. We’ve been doing this since…. oh, long before I was born. I was told it was because it was my Great Grandmother’s birthday. However, I’m sure it was ongoing long before that.

While our lake house venue has changed since the days of Lake Massapoag in Massachusetts, we still gather, now on Lake Skatutekee in New Hampshire, barbecue and share the years news, now from various corners of the country we have separated to.

Since I’m a photo hound, I will take a load of photos which I will definitely turn into some sea monster comics. I find this is a great way to torture my character Arno. So, keep a look out! Tomorrow it begins!

There is no better place to dream up comics than at the lake!

Enjoy!

Time for Writing

by Terri on June 29, 2013 at 8:03 pm

You have heard… or read, as you are not in my household to hear the audible rants, about my lack of writing time. Well, I’m here to put forth an obvious, yet brilliant solution. I now write in the morning before work. Thanks to the Nook, I can do this in bed with my coffee.

It’s crucial to carve out time for what one loves to do. While we all seem to need a day job, some of us crave that creative aspect. I enjoy design, strategic marketing, and product development, but nothing compares to drawing and writing my own stuff! The unlimited palette awaits. I find it important to stretch the soul outside the constrains of daily business. It brings an energetic flavor to my life which extends back into my job. I am always fresher at work after I have written or drawn a comic or two before breakfast… that IS my breakfast, usually.

I encourage you to journal during your early hours before work. It may lead to something amazing. You never know… and at the very least, it will make you feel good. You can’t argue with that. Besides, the kids, spouse and pets (except the cat) won’t bother you at 5am. No one bothers anyone at 5 am… except for the cat. If you feed the cat, you’re home free!

Enjoy your new found time!

Ghost Hunt a Bust

by Terri on June 26, 2013 at 9:45 pm
Posted In: Entities Blog, Paranormal Investigation

We were all set up to investigate the barn I keep my horse at. Unfortunately a war ensued between the owner of the property and the one who managed the barn. Thus, the ghost hunt was a casualty of the fallout. It’s sad really. But, many investigations fall by the wayside. We make the plans, change our schedules, charge our equipment, inconvenience our loved ones, and then it’s, “oh, I decided I don’t want to do it this weekend.”

People who ask to have their home or property “ghost hunted” think of it as a sport, a bit of fun. They don’t pay anyone, they don’t feel they even owe a cup of coffee sometimes. (My thermos gets a lot of use.) So, often they find something better to do and cancel… AT THE LAST MINUTE! That puts out about a dozen people and their families, and in this case, my horse!

Paranormal investigators do not charge on principle. We do not want our search for evidence to be clouded by cash. However, sometimes I think it warrants payment. This is our personal time, our equipment, gas, food, etc… It’s not free for us. It’s an expense, sometimes a large nut when we travel far, or equipment breaks. A cancellation, that means we’ve missed an opportunity somewhere else.

If we charged a fee, I bet most of these cancellations would cease, IF there was a deposit. There would be more respect for our skills and service. I may get a ton of backlash, but I think we have shortchanged ourselves by not asking for remuneration. It’s nice to help people, but there are those who are just seeking a thrill, and, by proxy, at the ghost hunter’s expense.

I think what I’m asking for is a little respect. I will say, what happened at the barn had nothing to do with fact we were investigating and everything to do with a horse people politics. So, this was not a deliberate “dissing.” It did bring to mind several investigations we arranged, some with teammates coming from out of state, only to have the venue say, oops, we forgot, or sorry we don’t want to do it this weekend (and it’s Friday).

The public needs to know, this is not a joke. This is not a chance to be on TV. This is not entertainment. (We had one couple invite all their friends to watch at one home…) Our goal is to seek evidence of a haunting, solve paranormal problems, discover history, and help those spirits stuck behind. We are here to seek, learn and help. The least you could do is follow through. And, a little coffee would not be amiss if you’re expecting us to be up until 4 am.

So, there’s my rant. I don’t rant much, but sometimes it’s necessary.

Do Ghosts Want to Scare Us?

by Terri on June 21, 2013 at 1:01 am

Of course! Can you imagine what fun it would be to terrorize invaders of your home?

Actually, they mostly want to gain your attention. After days, months and years of being ignored finally tweaks them enough to want to do ANYTHING in order to say, “YO, I’M HERE, DOPE!” So, as soon as they can figure out how to throw something, they will toss the cat.

Hans Holzer, the father of ghost hunting, stated most ghosts have become insane after living in an existence where they cannot communicate properly. Imaging being in limbo, no one to talk to, everyone avoiding you… It’s like solitary confinement where you can see everyone, but they cannot see you.

Time for some sympathy, eh? I’d say so. However, there are some spirits who are quite aware they are dead and totally get a thrill out of traumatizing their living friends. Thor, of course, is one of those. I know some of his fans say they would love to have Thor haunt their homes, but I don’t advise this. It would be worse than allowing your teenager and all his friends carte blanche party rights to your home when you are gone for a month. So, please, don’t ask him. You’ll regret it. Especially since I’m the one drawing him. I can dream up loads of evil ideas for him…

If you want to Like Thor on Facebook, here’s his fan page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ghost-Thors-Fan-Page/118540444869978

Aside: I’m engaging in another ghost hunt this weekend! This time it’s at the barn I keep my horse at. AND, he is going to join in! This should be interesting. I’m just hoping he doesn’t trash the equipment.

Stay Tuned!

Nookin’ Around

by Terri on June 11, 2013 at 7:02 am
Posted In: Comics

As of this weekend, I’m the proud owner of a Nook. For a former technology resistor, I’m really moving up in the world. Although, I still consider a Blackberry, a fruit. I am excited to dig into the realm of e-books. I’ve been a hardcover aficionado for decades, and still love the feel of paper between my fingers. Yet, the interactive opportunities intrigue me.

As a cartoonist, this opens up the possibility for animated books. This gets my blood going… User experience becomes paramount. What is more entertaining than a book one can participate in? Because of this, I’m learning all I can about how to build one of these suckers! It’s like building atomic design! HA!

The art of cartooning has come a long way since print. As artists, we can challenge ourselves, discovering new ways to ply our craft. I for one will be a busy little bastard over this… If all goes well, I will be sharing more fun and excitement on another level up from the basic webcomic. I’m excited to see where all this leads.

Meanwhile, I’m going to fool around with this Nook thing and see what I can learn. To think, I can read in bed without a night light! AND, I can make the type bigger when my eyes are butt tired.
